The view from my back deck

We were sitting out on the deck the other evening letting the kids roam freely while Jeff and I tried to relax, drink some coffee and catch up from a busy day. The sky behind our house is incredible. It's like I've never seen the sky before just about every time I go out there. Maybe it's that before we lived here we were in an apartment, and before that we had huge trees all around our house and never saw the sky, but for whatever reason, this sky is spectacular.

So the other night it was covered in the kind of clouds that are all patchy and spotted across bright blueness. "Glory be to God for dappled things" is what came to mind. If you haven't read "Pied Beauty" by Gerard Manley Hopkins, it's worth the read.

I never knew how much I missed seeing all the stars at night until I moved away from rural north Louisiana. One day when I was back at home, I drove way out Grabault Road between Mer Rouge and Oak Ridge to Christian Life Fellowship (i.e. the camp in the middle of a cotton field) just to look at the stars.
